לִכְרוֹךְ

To wrap

We use the infinitive "לִכְרוֹךְ" when we want to say that we want to put a scarf around the neck, meaning: to wrap a scarf around the neck.

אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בְּשֵׁם הַפֹּּעַל לִכְרוֹךְ, כַּאֲשֶׁר אֲנַחְנוּ רוֹצִים לְהַגִּיד שֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ רוֹצִים לָשִׂים צָעִיף עַל הַצַּוָּאר, כְּלוֹמַר: לִכְרוֹךְ צָעִיף עַל הַצַּוָּאר.

Also on Passover, on the night of the Seder, we wrap bitter herbs around the matzah when we want to fulfill the commandment of "bitter herb wrapped."

גַּם בְפֶסַח, בְּלֵיל הַסֵּדֶר אֲנַחְנוּ כּוֹרְכִים מָרוֹר עַל הַמַּצָּה כְּשֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ רוֹצִים לְקַיֵּם אֶת מִצְוַת מָרוֹר כּוֹרֵךְ.

The cover of a book is called a "כְּרִיכָה". When I gather some sheets together and make a book out of them, I will say that I כּוֹרֶכֶת them into a book.

הָעֲטִיפָה שֶׁל סֵפֶר נִקְרֵאת כְּרִיכָה. כַּאֲשֶׁר אֲנִי אוֹסֶפֶת כַּמָּה עַמּוּדִים בְּיַחַד וְעוֹשָׂה מֵהֶם סֵפֶר אֲנִי אֺמַר שֶׁאֲנִי כּוֹרֶכֶת אוֹתָם לְסֵפֶר.

In a metaphorical sense – when someone did something bad and someone else wants to accuse me of being an accomplice, I will say – I request not לִכְרוֹךְ me with him.

בְּמַשְׁמָעוּת מֵטָאפוֹרִית – כַּאֲשֶׁר מִישֶׁהוּ עָשָׂה מַשֶּׁהוּ רַע, וְרוֹצִים לְהַאֲשִׁים אוֹתִי שֶׁהַיִיתִי שׁוּתָפָה לַמַּעֲשֶׂה, אֲנִי אֹמַר: "אֲנִי מְבַקֶּשֶׁת לֹא לִכְרוֹךְ אוֹתִי יַחַד אִיתּוֹ".

Here are some sentences with the verb לִכְרוֹךְ" " in different pronouns and tenses:

הִנֵּה כַּמָּה מִשְׁפָּטִים עִם הַפֹּעַל לִכְרוֹךְ בְּגוּפִים וּזְמַנִּים שׁוֹנִים:

1. I wrapped a scarf around my neck before I left the house because it is so cold today.

1. כָּרַכְתִּי צָעִיף עַל הַצַּוָּאר לִפְנֵי שֶׁיָּצָאתִי מֵהַבַּיִת כִּי מַמָּשׁ קַר הַיּוֹם.

2. If you want to fulfill the commandment of "מָרוֹר כּוֹרֵךְ" on the night of the Seder, you need to wrap the bitter herbs around the matzah, bless and eat.

2. אִם אַתָּה רוֹצֶה לְקַיֵּם מִצְוַת "מָרוֹר כּוֹרֵךְ" בְּלֵיל הַסֵּדֶר, אַתָּה צָרִיךְ לִכְרוֹךְ אֶת הַמָּרוֹר מִסָּבִיב לְמַצָּה, לְבָרֵךְ וְלֶאֱכוֹל.

3. This project was a great success, but it demanded a lot of effort and time.

3. הַפְּרוֹיֶקְט הַזֶּה הָיָה הַצְלָחָה גְּדוֹלָה, אֲבָל כָּרוּךְ בְּהַשְׁקָעָה רַבָּה שֶׁל מַאֲמָץ וּזְמַן.

4. I bought this book because it is wrapped in such a beautiful and attractive cover, but I was disappointed with it.

4. קָנִיתִי אֶת הַסֵּפֶר הַזֶּה כִּי הוּא כָּרוּךְ בִּכְרִיכָה כָּל כָּךְ יָפָה וּמוֹשֶׁכֶת, אֲבָל הִתְאַכְזַבְתִּי מִמֶּנּוֹ נוֹרָא..
