To put on socks
The infinitive לִגְרוֹב means putting socks on the feet.
שֵׁם הַפֹּעַל לִגְרוֹב פֵּירוּשׁוֹ לָשִׂים גַּרְבַּיִם עַל הָרַגְלַיִם.
When it's cold in the winter, I wear thick socks, and when I wear sneakers, I wear thin socks.
כְּשֶׁקַּר לִי בַּחוֹרֶף, אֲנִי גּוֹרֶבֶת גַּרְבַּיִם עָבוֹת וּכְשֶׁאֲנִי נוֹעֶלֶת נַעֲלֵי סְפּוֹרְט אֲנִי גּוֹרֶבֶת גַּרְבַּיִם דַּקּוֹת יוֹתֵר.
But in the summer, it's very hot in Israel, and I don't wear socks at all. I wear sandals and no socks, but I know many people who wear socks even when they are wearing sandals.
אֲבָל בַּקַּיִץ, מַמָּשׁ מַמָּשׁ חַם בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל, וַאֲנִי בִּכְלָל לֹא גּוֹרֶבֶת גַּרְבַּיִם. אֲנִי נוֹעֶלֶת סַנְדָּלִים וְלֹא גּוֹרֶבֶת גַּרְבַּיִם, אֲבָל אֲנִי מַכִּירָה כַּמָּה אֲנָשִׁים שֶׁגּוֹרְבִים גַּרְבַּיִם גַּם כְּשֶׁהֵם נוֹעֲלִים סַנְדָּלִים.
If you read fashion magazines, in the past, wearing socks with sandals would have been considered bad taste, but nowadays even fashion sections say that this is an interesting fashion choice.
אִם תִּקְרְאוּ בִּמְדוֹרֵי הָאוֹפְנָה, בֶּעָבָר, לִגְרוֹב גַּרְבַּיִם עִם סַנְדָּלִים הָיָה נֶחֱשָׁב לְטַעַם רַע, אֲבָל בְּיָמֵינוּ אֲפִילּוּ מְדוֹרֵי הָאוֹפְנָהּ אוֹמְרִים שֶׁזֹּאת בְּחִירָה אוֺפְנָתִית מְעַנְיֶנֶת.
