Lost his pants

We use this expression when we want to talk about someone who has lost all their money.

אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בַּבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה כְּשֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ רוֹצִים לוֹמַר עַל מִישֶׁהוּ שֶׁאִבֵּד אֶת כָּל כַּסְפּוֹ.

For example: “I went to Las Vegas and lost my pants there.” That is, I went gambling at a casino in Las Vegas and lost all my money there.

לְמָשָׁל: "נָסַעְתִּי לְלָאס וֶגָאס וְאִבַּדְתִּי שָׁם אֶת הַמִּכְנָסַיִם". כְּלוֹמַר, הָלַכְתִּי לְשַׂחֵק בְּמִשְׂחֲקֵי הִימּוּרִים בְּקָזִינוֹ בְּלָאס וֶגָאס וְהִפְסַדְתִּי שָׁם אֶת כָּל הַכֶּסֶף שֶׁלִּי.

Sometimes we hear in the news about a businessman who took out large loans to invest in a business, but the business didn’t work out.

לִפְעָמִים אֲנַחְנוּ שׁוֹמְעִים בַּחֲדָשׁוֹת עַל אִישׁ עֲסָקִים שֶׁלָּקַח הַלְוָאוֹת גְּדוֹלוֹת כְּדֵי לְהַשְׁקִיעַ בָּעֵסֶק, אֲבָל הָעֵסֶק לֹא הִצְלִיחַ.

So not only did he not make as much money as he had planned, but he now owes a lot of money to the whom gave him the loans.

אָז לֹא זוֹ בִּלְבַד שֶׁהוּא לֹא הִרְוִיחַ כֶּסֶף כְּפִי שֶׁתִּכְנֵן, אֶלָּא גַּם הוּא חַיָּב עַכְשָׁיו הֲמוֹן כֶּסֶף לְמִי שֶׁנָּתַן לוֹ אֶת הַהַלְוָאוֹת.
