בְּכָל דּוֹר וְדוֹר עוֹמְדִים עָלֵינוּ לְכַלּוֹתֵנוּ
BE-CHOL DOR VA-DOR OMDIM ALENU LECHALOTENU
In each generation they come upon us to destroy\finish us
This phrase, which we recite during the Passover Seder, unfortunately serves as a reminder throughout the year as well.
גַּם אֶת הַמִּשְׁפָּט הַזֶּה אֲנַחְנוּ קוֹרְאִים בְּלֵיל הַסֵּדֶר, אֲבָל, לְצַעֲרֵנוּ, אֲנַחְנוּ נֶאֱלָצִים לְהִשְׁתַּמֵּשׁ בּוֹ מִדֵּי פַּעַם גַּם בְּיָמִים אֲחֵרִים שֶׁל הַשָּׁנָה.
History shows us countless attempts by various forces to carry out malicious plans against the Jewish people.
אֲנַחְנוּ רוֹאִים לְאוֹרֶךְ הַהִסְטוֹרְיָה שֶׁהָיוּ גּוֹרְמִים שׁוֹנִים שֶׁנִּסּוּ לְמַמֵּשׁ תּוֺכְנִית זְדוֹנִית לְהַשְׁמִיד אֶת הָעָם הַיְּהוּדִי.
The first was Pharaoh, who decreed that every male child be thrown into the Nile. Later, the Inquisition sought to force Jews to convert, and those who refused were sentenced to death. There were also the Nazis, the Iranians, Islam….
הָרִאשׁוֹן הָיָה פַּרְעֹה שֶׁצִּוָּה לִזְרוֹק לַנִּילוּס כָּל בֶּן זָכָר.
אַחַר כָּךְ הָאִינְקְוִיזִיצְיָה – נִסְּתָה לְהָמִיר אֶת דָּתָם שֶׁל הַיְּהוּדִים וּכְשֶׁהֵם לֹא הִסְכִּימוּ הֵם נִדּוֹנוּ לְמָוֶת.
הַנָּאצִים, הָאִירָאנִים, הָאִסְלָאם...
However, the critical part of this phrase is its second half: "And the Holy One, blessed be He, saves us from their hands."
אֲבָל הַחֵלֶק הֶחָשׁוּב בַּמִּשְׁפָּט הַזֶּה הוּא הַחֵלֶק הַשֵּׁנִי שֶׁלּוֹ: והקב"ה (=הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא) מַצִּילֵנוּ מִיָּדָם.
