Date - Dates

The date is the fruit of the palm tree, and it is one of the seven species with which the Land of Israel is blessed. The date is a sweet fruit that can be eaten as a healthy snack.

הַתָּמָר הוּא פְּרִי עֵץ הַדֶּקֶל וְהוּא נִמְנֶה עִם שִׁבְעַת הַמִּינִים שֶׁבָּהֶם נִשְׁתַּבְּחָה אֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל. הַתָּמָר הוּא פְּרִי מָתוֹק וְאֶפְשָׁר לֶאֱכוֹל אוֹתוֹ כַּחֲטִיף בָּרִיא.

The leaves of the palm tree are called " כַּפּוֹת תְּמָרִים," and we use them as a roof for the Sukkah that we build during the Sukkot holiday.

עֲלֵי עֵץ הַדֶּקֶל נִקְרָאִים כַּפּוֹת תְּמָרִים, וַאֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בָּהֶם כִּסְכַךְ לַסּוּכָּה שֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ בּוֹנִים בְּחַג הַסּוּכּוֹת.

You can also make date syrup. Date syrup is called Silan, and it is widely used in the kitchen to sweeten different dishes without using sugar.

אֶפְשָׁר גַּם לְהָכִין דְּבַשׁ תְּמָרִים. דְּבַשׁ הַתְּמָרִים נִקְרָא סִילָאן וּמִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בּוֹ הַרְבֵּה בַּמִּטְבָּח אִם רוֹצִים לְהַמְתִּיק מַאֲכָלִים שׁוֹנִים וְלֹא לְהִשְׁתַּמֵּשׁ בְּסוּכָּר.

Tamar is also a woman's name. We know Tamar from the story of Amnon and Tamar in the Book of Genesis, chapter 38.

תָּמָר הוּא גַּם שְׁמָהּ שֶׁל אִישָּׁה. אֲנַחְנוּ מַכִּירִים אֶת תָּמָר מִסִּיפּוּר אַמְנוֹן וְתָמָר בְּסֵפֶר בְּרֵאשִׁית פֶּרֶק לח'.

Here are some sentences with the word date or dates:

הִנֵּה כַּמָּה מִשְׁפָּטִים עִם הַמִּילָּה תָּמָר אוֹ תְּמָרִים:

1. On the way to Eilat at the end of the summer, we saw date harvesting. The harvesters stood on a crane and cut the clusters of dates from the tall palm trees.

1. בַּדֶּרֶךְ לְאֵילַת בְּסוֹף הַקַּיִץ רָאִינוּ גְּדִיד תְּמָרִים. הַגּוֹדְדִים עָמְדוּ עַל מָנוֹף וְחָתְכוּ אֶת אֶשְׁכּוֹלוֹת הַתְּמָרִים מֵעֲצֵי הַדֶּקֶל הַגְּבוֹהִים.

2. If you feel like eating a healthy and nutritious energy snack, take a date, cut it in half, place a walnut between the two halves of the date, and close it.

2. אִם בָּא לָכֶם חֲטִיף אֵנֶרְגִּיָּה בָּרִיא וּמֵזִין קְחוּ תָּמָר חִתְכוּ אוֹתוֹ לִשְׁנֵי חֲלָקִים, שִׂימוּ אֱגוֹז מֶלֶךְ בֵּין שְׁנֵי הַחֲלָקִים שֶׁל הַתָּמָר וְסִגְרוּ.

3. If you want to make Ma'amoul, you need to make a soft dough, spread date paste on it, roll it into rolls, and cut the rolls into slices.

3. אִם אַתֶּם רוֹצִים לְהָכִין מַעֲמוּל אַתֶּם צְרִיכִים לְהָכִין בָּצֵק רַךְ, לִמְרוֹחַ עָלָיו מִמְרַח תְּמָרִים, לְגַלְגֵּל אוֹתוֹ לִגְלִילִים וְלַחְתּוֹךְ אֶת הַגְּלִילִים לִפְרוּסוֹת.

4. The Dead Sea is located in the Tamar Regional Council area. Every summer, a music festival known as the 'Date Festival' is held there.

4. יַם הַמֶּלַח נִמְצָא בְּשֶׁטַח הַמּוֹעָצָה הָאֵזוֹרִית תָּמָר. בְּכָל קַיִץ מִתְקַיֵּם שָׁם פֶסְטִיבַל מוּזִיקָה הַיָּדוּעַ בְּשֵׁם 'פֶסְטִיבַל הַתָּמָר'.
