A spoon - Spoons
The word "spoon" in Hebrew is an interesting word. It serves us in several ways:
הַמִּילָּה כַּף הִיא מִילָה מְע ַנְיֶנֶת.
הִיא מְשַׁמֶּשֶׁת אוֹתָנוּ בְּכַמָּה עוֹלָמוֹת תּוֹכֶן:
We have the spoon with which we drink soup or the serving spoon, which is a larger one and with which we serve the food from the central dish on the table to the plates.
יֵשׁ לָנוּ אֶת הַכַּף שֶׁבְּאֶמְצָעוּתָהּ שׁוֹתִים מָרָק אוֹ כַּף הַגָּשָׁה שֶׁהִיא גְּדוֹלָה יוֹתֵר וּבְאֶמְצָעוּתָהּ אֲנַחְנוּ מַגִּישִׁים אֶת הָאוֹכֶל מֵהַכְּלִי הַמֶּרְכָּזִי שֶׁבַּשּׁוּלְחָן אֶל הַצָלָחוֹת.
But we also have the palm of the hand and the sole of the foot, which are body parts. And we also have palm fronds, which we use as a roof for the sukkah.
אֲבָל יֵשׁ לָנוּ גַּם כַּף יָד וְכַף רֶגֶל שֶׁהֵם אֵיבְרֵי הַגּוּף, וְגַם יֵשׁ כַּפּוֹת תְּמָרִים שֶׁבָּהֶם אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים כִּסְכָךְ לַסּוּכָּה.
In the word "spoon" (כף), there are only two letters, but we know that usually, we have a three letters root. The root of the word כף is כ.פ.פ, and we do not see the second letter פ.
בַּמִּילָּה כַּף, יֵשׁ רַק שְׁתֵּי אוֹתִיּוֹת, אֲבָל אֲנַחְנוּ יוֹדְעִים שֶׁבְּדֶרֶךְ כְּלָל יֵשׁ לָנוּ 3 אוֹתִיּוֹת בַּשּׁוֹרֶשׁ. הַשּׁוֹרֶשׁ שֶׁל הַמִּילָּה כַּף הוּא כ.פ.פ וַאֲנַחְנוּ לֹא רוֹאִים אֶת הָאוֹת פ' הַשְּׁנִיָּה.
Here are some sentences with the word spoon or spoons:
הִנֵּה כַּמָּה מִשְׁפָּטִים עִם הַמִּילָּה כַּף אוֹ כַּפּוֹת:
1. I have a special ice cream spoon with which I can create beautiful ice cream balls and put them on a tasty waffle cone.
1. יֵשׁ לִי כַּף גְּלִידָה מְיוּחֶדֶת שֶׁבְּאֶמְצָעוּתָהּ אֲנִי יְכוֹלָה לִיצוֹר כַּדּוּרֵי גְּלִידָה יָפִים וְלָשִׂים אוֹתָם עַל גָּבִיעַ וָפֶל טָעִים.
2. When I stir the stew in the pot, I use a wooden spoon and not a metal spoon so as not to damage the pot.
2. כְּשֶׁאֲנִי מְעַרְבֶּבֶת אֶת הַתַּבְשִׁיל בַּסִּיר אֲנִי מִשְׁתַּמֶּשֶׁת בְּכַף עֵץ וְלֹא בְּכַף מַתֶּכֶת כְּדֵי לֹא לִפְגּוֹעַ בַּסִּיר.
3. The entire audience erupted in loud applause when the concert ended.
3. כָּל הַקָּהָל פָּרַץ בִּמְחִיאוֹת כַּפַּיִם סוֹעֲרוֹת כְּשֶׁהַקּוֹנְצֶרְט הִסְתַּיֵּם.
4. The recipe says to add a heaping tablespoon of salt. I think that’s too much salt.
4. בַּמַּתְכּוֹן כָּתוּב שֶׁצָּרִיךְ לָשִׂים כַּף גְּדוּשָׁה שֶׁל מֶלַח. אֲנִי חוֹשֶׁבֶת שֶׁזֶּה יוֹתֵר מִדַּי מֶלַח.
