Tasteless
We describe flavorless food as tasteless when it lacks salt or spices and is unappealing.
טַעַם תָּפֵל אֲנַחְנוּ אוֹמְרִים עַל אוֹכֶל שֶׁאֵין בּוֹ מֶלַח אוֹ תַּבְלִינִים וְהָאוֹכֶל לֹא טָעִים לָנוּ.
Are you familiar with the phrase "superstition"? A superstition is something people believe in, but it has no real evidence. For example, some people believe that if a black cat crosses your path, it brings bad luck.
מַכִּירִים אֶת הַבִּיטּוּי אֱמוּנָה תְּפֵלָה?
אֱמוּנָה תְּפֵלָה זֶה מַשֶּׁהוּ שֶׁאֲנָשִׁים מַאֲמִינִים בּוֹ אֲבָל אֵין לוֹ בֶּאֱמֶת הוֹכָחוֹת לְמָשָׁל: אֲנָשִׁים מַאֲמִינִים שֶכַּאֲשֶׁר עוֹבֵר לְפָנֶיךָ חָתוּל שָׁחוֹר זֶה מַזָּל רַע.
In contrast to tasteless food and superstition, which have negative connotations, there is the concept of "water desalination."
לְעוּמַּת אוֹכֶל תָּפֵל וְאֱמוּנָה תְּפֵלָה שֶׁיֵּשׁ לָהֶם מַשְׁמָעוּת לֹא חִיּוּבִית יֵשׁ לָנוּ אֶת הַמּוּשַֺג "הַתְפָּלַת מַיִם".
Water desalination is a very positive action. It involves separating salt from water so that it can be used for irrigation. Why is this so significant? Because during years of drought, when there is little rainfall, we desalinate seawater to meet our needs.
הַתְפָּלַת מַיִם זוֹהִי פְּעוּלָּה מְאוֹד חִיּוּבִית. זוֹ פְּעוּלָּה שֶׁל הַפְרָדַת הַמְּלָחִים מֵהַמַּיִם כְּדֵי שֶׁנּוּכַל לְהִשְׁתַּמֵּשׁ בָּהֶם לְהַשְׁקָיָה. וְלָמָּה זֶה כָּל כָּךְ חִיּוּבִי? כִּי לִפְעָמִים יֵשׁ לָנוּ שְׁנַת בַּצּוֹרֶת, כְּלוֹמַר שָׁנָה בְּלִי הַרְבֵּה גְּשָׁמִים אָז אֲנַחְנוּ מַתְפִּילִים מֵי יָם.
