To send
One of the commandments of Purim is to send 'Mishloach Manot' to at least two people. Within the Mishloach Manot, you must include food and drink, not money!
אַחַת הַמִּצְווֹת שֶׁל פּוּרִים הִיא לִשְׁלוֹחַ מִשְׁלוֹחַ מָנוֹת לְפָחוֹת לִשׁ ְנֵי אֲנָשִׁים. בְּתוֹךְ מִשְׁלוֹחַ הַמָּנוֹת צָרִיךְ לִשְׁלוֹחַ אוֹכֶל וּשְׁתִיָּה, לֹא כֶּסֶף!
However, the infinitive לִשְׁלוֹחַ (to send) is not only related to Purim. We also use it in many other contexts:
אֲבָל שֵׁם הַפֹּעַל לִשְׁלוֹחַ לֹא קָשׁוּר רַק לְחַג פּוּרִים וַאֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בּוֹ גַּם בְּהַרְבֵּה תְּחוּמִים אֲחֵרִים:
We can send a letter or a package by mail. We can send an email or a message via SMS or WhatsApp.
אֲנַחְנוּ יְכוֹלִים לִשְׁלוֹחַ מִכְתָּב אוֹ חֲבִילָה בַּדּוֹאַר,
אֲנַחְנוּ יְכוֹלִים לִשְׁלוֹחַ אִימֵיְל (=דּוֹא"ל = דּוֹאַר אֵלֶקְטְרוֹנִי) אוֹ הוֹדָעָה בְּ – SMS אוֹ ווַאצְאַפּ.
If we meet someone who knows another person we haven’t seen in a while, we can ask them to send our regards.
אִם אֲנַחְנוּ פּוֹגְשִׁים מִישֶׁהוּ וְהוּא מַכִּיר מִישֶׁהוּ אַחֵר שֶׁלֹּא רָאִינוּ מִזְּמַן אֲנַחְנוּ יְכוֹלִים לִשְׁלוֹחַ לוֹ דְּרִישַׁת שָׁלוֹם.
Here are a few sentences with the infinitive לִשְׁלוֹחַ:
הִנֵּה כַּמָּה מִשְׁפָּטִים עִם שֵׁם הַפֹּעַל לִשְׁלֹוחַ:
1. The parents decided to send their children to summer camp to learn English.
1. הַהוֹרִים הֶחְלִיטוּ לִשְׁלוֹחַ אֶת יַלְדֵיהֶם לְמַחֲנֵה קַיִץ (Summer camp) כְּדֵי לִלְמוֹד אַנְגְּלִית.
2. The big company chose to send holiday packages to its employees as a gesture of appreciation for their dedicated work.
2. הַחֶבְרָה הַגְּדוֹלָה בָּחֲרָה לִשְׁלוֹחַ חֲבִילוֹת חַג לָעוֹבְדִים כְּאוֹת הוֹקָרָה עַל עֲבוֹדָתָם הַמְּסוּרָה.
3. The teacher asked the students to send the assignments they prepared via email by Thursday of the following week.
3. הַמּוֹרָה בִּקְּשָׁה מֵהַתַּלְמִידִים לִשְׁלוֹחַ אֶת הָעֲבוֹדוֹת שֶׁהֵכִינוּ בְּאֶמְצָעוּת הַמֵּיְיל עַד יוֹם חֲמִישִׁי בַּשָּׁבוּעַ הַבָּא.
4. The young artist decided to send his works to an international exhibition, hoping to show his talent to a broader audience.
4. הָאָמָּן הַצָּעִיר הֶחֱלִיט לִשְׁלוֹחַ אֶת יְצִירוֹתָיו לְתַעֲרוּכָה בֵּינְלְאוּמִּית, בְּתִקְוָה לַחֲשׂוֹף אֶת כִּשְׁרוֹנוֹ לְקָהָל רָחָב יוֹתֵר.
