צוֹחֵק מִי שֶׁצּוֹחֵק אַחֲרוֹן
TSOCHEK MI SHE-TSOCHEK ACHARON
Laughs, he who laughs last
We use this expression to tell someone to wait for the final resalt and not celebrate temporary victories.
אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בַּבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה כְּשֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ רוֹצִים לְהַגִּיד לְמִישֶׁהוּ שׁ ֶיְּחַכֶּה לַתּוֹצָאָה הַסּוֹפִית וְלֹא יִשְׂמַח עַל נִצְחוֹנוֹת זְמַנִּיִּים.
For example: If my friend and I are in a running competition, and during the race, he overtakes me and laughs at me, but suddenly he gets tired, and I overtake him and wins the competition, I would say to him: "He who laughs last, laughs best!"
לְמָשָׁל: אִם אֲנִי וְחָבֵר עוֹשִׂים תַּחֲרוּת רִיצָה. בְּמַהֲלַךְ הָרִיצָה הוּא עוֹקֵף אוֹתִי וְצוֹחֵק עָלַי, אֲבָל פִּתְאוֹם הוּא מִתְעַיֵּף וַאֲנִי עוֹקֶפֶת אוֹתוֹ וּמְנַצַּחַת אוֹתוֹ בַּתַּחֲרוּת, אֲנִי אֺמַר לוֹ: "צוֹחֵק מִי שֶׁצּוֹחֵק אַחֲרוֹן"!
This also happens in soccer games. Players and fans laugh at the opposing team when they score a goal.
גַּם בְּמִשְׂחֲקֵי כַּדּוּרֶגֶל זֶה קוֹרֶה. הַשַּׂחְקָנִים וְהָאוֹהֲדִים צוֹחֲקִים עַל הַקְּבוּצָה הַיְּרִיבָה כַּאֲשֶׁר הֵם מַבְקִיעִים גּוֹל.
However, sometimes that goal motivates the opposing team to play more aggressively, and in the end, they win the game.
אֲבָל לִפְעָמִים הַגּוֹל הַזֶּה גּוֹרֵם לַקְּבוּצָה הַיְּרִיבָה לְהַתְחִיל לְשַׂחֵק בְּיֶתֶר הֶתְקֵפִיּוּת וּבְסוֹפוֹ שֶׁל דָּבָר הֵם מְנַצְּחִים בַּמִּשְׂחָק.
